How did a country with few natural resources and a relatively small domestic market become a global force in industries as different as entertainment, beauty, technology and manufacturing?
It's a question that Sunny Park and Jay Woo have been asking themselves for years. Both Korean-born, they spent much of their professional lives leading multinational businesses and teams across Asia. And the longer they worked outside Korea, the more they began to recognize something distinctive about how Korean teams get things done.
Their new book, The K Moment, explores that observation and offers a fresh perspective on Korea's remarkable success.
The authors argue that Korea's achievements are not simply the result of cultural characteristics, extraordinary individuals or favorable circumstances. Behind the success is a way of working – a set of behaviors that have been practiced, refined and reinforced over generations.
They call it 3Hi, a framework built around three interconnected behaviors:
Each behavior is valuable on its own. But the real power comes from how the three reinforce one another.
Through stories from K-pop, esports and Korean businesses such as Samyang Foods, Gentle Monster, Olive Young and Kolmar Korea, the book illustrates how these behaviors contribute to extraordinary performance.
The authors also draw on their own leadership experiences. Sunny shares how his team took a gaming PC brand from just 2% market share to number one in Korea in eighteen months. Jay recounts an ambitious challenge to plant one million trees in eleven months, without a budget, and how the team's collective energy transformed what initially seemed impossible.
But The K Moment is not just a book about Korea.
At its heart, it explores a question relevant to leaders everywhere: What enables ordinary people, working together, to achieve extraordinary results?
The final section translates these insights into practical tools that leaders can use to strengthen collaboration, accelerate execution and build sustained performance within their own teams.
